Underwear is an accurate, if not glamorous word to describe the garments we wear under everything else we wear. Call me old fashioned, but I have always felt that in typical day-to-day settings, my underthings are meant to be felt by me, and seen by only selectively, and by a very select few. Under means under. No thongs creeping up vine-like from beneath low slung jeans or brazen bras for me. I am quite happy to have my figure on display (while I still have one) of course, and delighted to employ lingerie to merchandise my assets, but this effort and effect is all about me (and my girls), and not the lingerie.
Summer is approaching here in the south though, and things are likely warming up where you are too. We all make adjustments in outerwear to enjoy the weather. Tops get lighter and blouse-ier, necklines scoop lower, sleeves vanish and armholes widen to achieve all sorts of wonderful fashion effects, including providing the ventilation required to make it through hot days without melting. Summery styles can the effect of putting the bra too much on display for comfort at the time of year when comfort is most required.
So I genuinely like how the Second Base Demi Cami allows you to keep all of your favorite bras in play without needing to over-think getting dressed in the morning. If your find yourself clasping a bra with too much color or construction for the filmy top de jour, simply pull on an ivory Jacquie and proceed. If you want a cool way to show a peak of color under a tailored shirt, glide into one of 14 shades of Brittany, (pictured here in sage) undo an extra button and stop worrying about gaping and flashing.
Each of the dozen or so Second Base styles takes more or less the same easy approach. Lightweight, breathable fabrics with enough stretch and give to stay comfortably in place, provide terrific coverage, and show a little fashion flair. Pulled on over top of your bra, the elastic hem at the band line snugs just under the bra cups and band and saves you all the worries about showing off just a little too much. Traditional cami tops do many of the same tricks, but come at the cost of that much more warmth. Clingy built-in bra camisoles are a fine idea too, but without cup lining they fail a critical modesty test and simply don’t have the support that an active day requires.
The Second Base line goes beyond day and weekend wear with some lovely evening offerings. My personal favorite, Jennifer, has all of the nice features of the rest of the line, but makes a more playful, and, if you please, a more seductive statement in lace. Comfortable enough for me to lose sight of what I was wearing. Alluring enough that people around me did not. Win, win, yes?
What else should you know? Sizes and styles suitable for the petite, the plus and all in between. Second Base is a home grown success story, pulled up by the straps by founder Jennie Horn.
