Since the dawn of days, women have been embellishing their alluring curves, while being loud and proud of their womanhood. In fact, fashion is just another form of expressing women confidence. From the 12th century, fashion has been maintaining something that you may as well see as a river of new and innovative styles of clothing for women all over the world.
On that note, the Victorian Era was a milestone in the fashion industry because it is the origin ofthe Basques and corselettes, two of the most sensual and elegant pieces of lingerie a woman can buy for herself in the 21st century.
For this article I’ve chosen my 9 all-time favorite Basques and corselettes (or corseletes). Don’t be surprised to see that 90% of the designers chosen are from the UK. After all, these fine undergarments are inspired by British history.
Number 1 is a splendid black Basque, hot and mesmerizing. It’s comfortable, supportive AND glamorous. Needless to say, this Basque will make any woman feel irresistible. The underwired cups add the necessary support while the ribbon around the waist adds the wow factor. Don’t know what to wear it with? How about a pair of silky stockings (£8.00) and a matching thong (£6.00), which you can also buy from Ann Summer’s online shop.
2. Gossard Ohh La La Corselette – £59
Usually, pink has a calming effect, but I believe that the Gossard Ohh La La corselette is bound to have a rather un-calming outcome, if you catch my drift. The delicate lace trim and that sexy waistline ribbon highlight your beautiful curves, while allowing you to enjoy a comfortable wear all day, all night. You can buy this stunning piece for £59 and the matching thong for £12 online at NEXT UK.
Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Lauren are only few of the bonified fashion icons of the ’50s. If you’ve ever spent a Saturday night watching “To catch a thief” with your girlfriend, then you will love this fabulous design from What Katie Did.
With the chevron seaming and the steel boning, the Cabaret corsolette, my third choice for this list, will make your waist look simply incredible. The shape of your curves will be highlighted by the power mesh that smooths your outline. The non-stretch satin back is really easy to handle, due to the hook and eye system that fastens to the waist. This is just one irresistible design signed by What Katie Did that you can purchase from here, if you are a UK resident.
There’s this saying going, “Real women have curves”. I admit, I’m not a curvy lady, but I can subscribe to the good intentions of this proverbial thought.
In this case, my number four choice is dedicated to Hips and Curves satin and lace black bustier ($55). With supportive underwire cups and vertical boning for extra support, all your concerns regarding body shaping will be crumbled into pieces. As the name itself suggests, Hips and Curves bustiers may as well be the right combination of stunning and support you’ve been looking for, at a convenient price.
Okay, let’s pause for a second. Take a deep breath, because right now the spotlight goes right on the shiniest star of basques and corselettes on my list.
We all know that France is this Shangri-La of fashion, and there’s a good reason for that. My all-time favorite Agent Provocateur basqueis made of French lace, as delicate and downright hot as it gets. I would have also chosen a demi-cup for a stunning piece like this. It goes fantastic with the slim straps and the cute ribbons that tuck them together. And that’s not all. Sophisticated tulle and a silky waist band that you tie by yourself finish this irresistible black Basque.
6. Lise Charmel Charm Eros Red Basque – £120
If you’ve ever read The Legends of Olympus, it means you’ve gotten to know Eros pretty well. This God of Love, as well as his Roman counterpart Cupid, are all about seduction. Well my dears, it’s not Olympus, it’s not ancient Rome, it’s 2012 and if you’re a woman, you’ve got it in you. The power of seduction is our inalienable ace in the sleeve. If you agree, and I’m sure you do, here is something you may want to see.
Fine tulle, rich embellishment, feather embroidery and just the right small dimple right in between cups are perfectly completed by the intricately embroidered straps. It’s seductive, enticing AND crimson, and it’s created by Lise Charmel.
7. Kiss Me Deadly – Vargas Dress – £69.00
Lucky number seven is dedicated to Kiss Me Deadly and the notorious Vargas Dress, which was created for women who are well aware of their femininity and seduction powers. A double layer of stretchy control mesh pulls in your stomach, cinches your waist and outlines your curves in an instant. A gorgeous piece that needs no further introductions.
8. Chantelle Eternelle Basque – £130.00
Seductive and glamorous, the Chantelle Basque almost redefines what elegance is all about. Perfectly finished, with a sense of fine couture, made of the most sensual and fine lace, the Eternelle piece is timeless and plainly gorgeous.
9. Lascivious Carmen Basque – £975.00
The last on this top is also the most expensive of all. Here is the luxury league of basques and corselettes, crowned by this Lascivious bold design. Finished with crystal embellishments, this is a precious garment fit for stars and queens. The price is prohibitive for many of us, including myself, but it costs nothing to appreciate a gorgeous piece of the finest lingerie when I see it.
My list ends here, for now. I’ve chosen only 9 pieces for this top because I’d like to let you choose number 10.
