Throughout my years of experience in lingerie fitting I’ve grown to understand so well just how important comfort is, and I’m not talking exclusively about customized bra fitting, I’m talking about those times when you don’t even want to be wearing a bra at all. Summers are like that. The heat becomes unbearable and whatever fabric you decide to wear, you’d still want to be wearing nothing and simply let your skin breathe freely.
Until the day comes when we’ll be walking naked down the street, we need solutions: breathable bras, lightweight and comfortable.
Spacer Bras are ideal for beating the heat of summer days. Made of super light and airy fabrics, spacer bras almost feel as if you’re wearing nothing underneath your clothes. The secret with spacer bras, and this is what I most love about them, is that they look like T-shirt bras but in fact, once you put them on, you see how you can mix them with stylish outfits like low-cut shirts or office attire. Why? Because you get the advantages of soft, spongy weightless cups but also a rounded bust shape and full support. All this on a fabric that breathes and makes summer days much more pleasant, especially if you have the type of skin that perspires slightly more.
Popular choices this summer come from Wacoal, Fantasie and Chantelle.
Cotton blend bras are casual comfort every-day bras. Most of them are underwired for 100% support and plus size designs usually provide full coverage, it depends on the model but they usually check off this requirement most plus size women have. Straps are also an issue especially during summer. Straps that dig in, not only are they incredibly uncomfortable but because of the heat they also irritate the skin and give you an itch or two. Awful. This should never happen. Cotton blend bras are a real rescuer, without the restrictions of a traditional bra.
Popular cotton blend choices this summer come from Cosabella and Prima Donna. Stylish, lightweight and supportive.
These bras were made for wicking and to keep you cool and dry. We tend to believe moisture wicking bras are mostly sports bras and if you’re not really into sports there’s no reason to buy them. Good news is in 2014 several brands have really made an effort to change this perception from sporty and not that nice looking to stylish, supportive and moisture-free. Especially if you have a serious moisture discomfort, there’s really no use in buying fabulous bras that after one hour of wearing them feel so damn uncomfortable. And luckily, brands like Wacoal, Elomi, Calida and Natori have taken the stringent moisture issue seriously and released some bra styles that are nice looking, flattering and moisture-wicking. Just the right combination.
