Wordy girl that I am, I had not really thought about the link between the words Sense and Sensuality until just recently. Then I slid into a cami / panty set sent my way for review by friends at Lilipiache and my senses and understanding of sensuality come into a new and lovely alignment.
Lilipiache is a young, New York based line with a strong affinity for floral motif and a loving regard for nature. We met Lilipiache last year, developed a mad crush and said a few nice and true things about their pretty ambitions here and there. Curve NY Lingerie Expo is just around the corner and Guilty Pleasures has a little preview of what Lilipiache is introducing. Which brings me back to my senses and sensuality.
You see, I think that women who take lingerie more seriously than the typical girl really walk through the world with heightened senses. We have a more ravenous, reflexive, ready responses to sensory stimulae. Think lingerie for a moment. We delight in how our pretty things feels on us and enlivens our Sense of Touch. We delight in how our pretty things look to us (and to our lovers) and excite our Sense of Sight.
Think beyond lingerie now. All of my knicker-mad friends are more obsessive about desert and wine and they tear into warm loaves of bread like a puppy rips apart pillows. We love our flavors and very much cater to our Sense of Taste. Same thing with our ears. Nature’s soundtrack of breeze and bird call, the music we set moments too and even blessed moments of stillness and quiet are all prayers to our Sense of Sound.
Which leaves us with (and leads us to) our Sense of Smell. We do respond to aroma, yes? Of all of our senses, this is the sense with the most immediate hold on our attentions. Our noses are hot wired to our minds and confer states of tranquility and comfort faster than the other senses.
So, back now to Lilipiache and my current state of tranquility and comfort. The very simple and pretty camisole set I am wearing just now from the Lilipiache Spring/Summer 14 line features Aromatic technology very much at the avant garde of fabric science. I am not much for science, but here it goes:
Picture thousands of microscopic spheres, tiny pearls of perfume providing the subtlest whisper of scent, fresh floral notes. The natural fruit, flower and plant oils deeply, invisibly embedded within the very fibers of these garments are enlivened by friction, in short when worn, and when washed. Aromatherapy-to-go in short. Science class is now concluded.
We think of aromatherapy at spas, perhaps at home (candles, incense), maybe in the odd luxurious scented bath. If these are settings you enjoy, the Aromatic Lingerie line should be in tune with your take on things. Unlike the spa, the fragrance does not dominate, it is contained and intimate. Fresh is the feeling. Combine the Aromatic stuff with the signature Lilipiache cotton and silk fabrics, gossamer lace elements and very loosely structured love of our natural shapes and silhouettes and, like me, you would be having a Sunday that you could use a month of.
My set is a lovely, lightly elasticized, lace trimmed chemise with adjustable straps paired with a moderate coverage bikini panty. Perfect lazy day wear and, comfy nightwear too with just enough innocent romance. I have taken the set through a couple of hand wash and wear cycles and like it more each time. The fabric has the softest chambray hand feel and I already associate the subtle garden scent with happy things.
The new Aromatic Lingerie line being introduced at Curve includes chemises, rompers, robes, bralettes, bikinis and thongs. The colors run mostly to soft pastels, shades of grey and vintage pinks that look familiar even when newly out of the package.
In addition to the Aromatic pieces, Lilipiache is doubling its line assortment to 6 here in this, their third gorgeous collection. Signature elements of the brand essence remain very much in evidence, and if challenged to reduce the brand to a few words, here is what I would leave you with.
Lilipiache revers nature. Timeless and enduring silks, cottons and linens are the foundation. Lilipiache respects craft. There is real care in construction, and O, the Leavers lace. Lilipiache loves natural shapes. Their lines do not distort, they decorate.
I do so enjoy my Lilipiache pieces, and my new Aromatic set too. They each have in common a connection with the senses, and with my newly enlarged thinking around sensuality too.
Lilipiache is stocked at select boutiques, perhaps shops close to you, and online at a handful of my favorite venues including Bella Bella Boutique, Azaleas, and the always tastefully curated Journelle. If you are attending Curve, be sure to book a look see with Lilipiache here. I will update you here in Autumn when the line is complete.
