From Germany with Love: Liaison Dangereuse

liaison dangereuse

The novel “Les Liaisons Dangereuse” is an analysis of libertinism that depicts the decadence of the 18th century French aristocracy. The boutique Liaison Dangereuse is a modern German story of love and seduction that stylishes a fancy boudoir, owned by 2 lingerie victims, Edlyn Mauke and Laurence Saunier.

We talked to Laurence, who is kind and sweet and lovely. She told us about trends and colors, about the kind of pieces men are most likely to buy, about the musts in your lingerie drawer and many other interesting things you can read in the interview below.

Liaison Dangereuse started in may 2007 because me and my friend Edlyn are two lingerie lovers and were desperate to find nice lingerie in Germany. In London or Paris there has always been such a wide choice of different brands and styles and in Germany there only always was Passionata, Schiesser and Triumph, maximum some LaPerla stuff. So we thought we bring it to Germany ourselves and started our own web-boutique. We thought if we feel so desperate then chances are that some other people in Germany might do as well.

The web-boutique then worked so well that we opened up our first “flagship store” in Hamburg this year. Its great to have a real connection also with your customers as well and not only through the internet. You learn so much more about what women want and want not, how the things fit etc.

2) What makes LDB stand out from the crowd?

Liaison Dangereuse features more special brands and not only the mass market stuff. We feature brands that are otherwise difficult to get in Germany. Like Mimi Holliday, Stella McCartney, Chantal Thomass, Blush, Elle Mcpherson etc. We always try and look for new and promising brands on the market. Its just great to show different styles. We specifically do not only want to offer the mass market brands that you find everywhere but we also want to look for the extra bit.

We also provide accessories next to lingerie; like beautiful and trendy jewelry, beauty products by Korres and Kings and Queens and sexy boudoir accessoires by Booty Parlor, Love Yourself, Kamasutra and Lelo. Our concept is based on seduction and so we want to offer everything that seduces women.

3) Is there a lingerie trend?

Purple was a big colour this year, also for lingerie. Next year Orange will be a big hit. Its more new colours like yellow, turquoise, orange, purple, pink now and less just the traditional nude, champagne, black. But also there is a trend towards more sexy lingerie. A lot of brands feature very sexy series in their collections, with transparent fabrics, sexy details like cut outs, deep plungelines, ruffles etc.

4) Which of the lingerie pieces appeal most to women?

Women often love the practical stuff. They look for bras they can wear everyday. Bras that fit under an office outfit, without too much details that shines through a blowse. So without stitchings and laces etc but great to wear. Its mostly guys that go for the complicated lingerie with a lot of laces, bows, detailings etc. Women love this as well but they prefer to get this as a gift.

For themselves they prefer the elegant lingerie that is not too over the top in terms of usability and wearability. They love extraordinary prints and colours but without too much details in the cut and the material. Rather a simple and plain model but with a great new colour or print. Whereas guys prefer the satin, silky, lacy, embroidered and detailed bra but with traditional colours like black, black, black and maybe some champagne, rose and white as well. They are not really up for the trendy colours.

5) Excluding bra and panties, is there any other lingerie drawer “must”?

A beautiful home gown/nightgown like the Morningstar by Blush (pictured above). I think it is extremely sexy to walk around your home in this gown. You are dressed but not really. You look totally seductive while not showing too much. This item is a must for romantic evenings.

6) What’s your favorite piece from LDB?

My favourite piece is the Blush Morning Star Wraparound Dress. It’s so 50ies and absolutely beautiful and sexy! It gives a very feminine silhouette and nicely features the cleavage with its ruches. You guess a little but do not see too much. Also you can combine it with jeans or leggings or just wear it solo as a wraparound dress. It looks gorgeous and is extremely versatile.

7) If you could put LDB in one word, what would that word be?

Seduction.

Thank you.

Mmm, I don’t know about you, but I am sure that – lingerie is a dish best served hot. And Liaison Dangereuse, a tasty boutique.
