by Caroline Green, of Craft Sensations
I’ve loved doing all kinds of arts and crafts my whole life. It was always just a hobby but then, working for an education charity and running Enterprise courses for students, I was so inspired by the students that I decided to set up my own company. And so Craft Sensations was born!
As with a lot of new companies, I’ve found there has been a steep learning curve. The very first craft stall I did, I spent hours and hours doing a complicated referencing system and only sold one necklace for £4! But I have to be honest, it was the BEST £4 I ever made! I’ve still got the £5 note the person used to buy it!
I think one of my biggest learning points has been not to try to make money. Obviously that’s the aim but the focus should always be on the craft and making beautiful products which are good quality and beautiful products people can’t resist! A lot of my products are popular with children – everything from decorated pencils to FIMO models and I love see their little faces light up when they’re allowed to buy something.
The best thing though is buying a load of materials, putting them together and coming up with a great new product – it’s so relaxing (expect when I’m making jewellery and dropping beads everywhere – I tend to swear a lot at that point! Hee hee!) and satisfying. I just wish I could settle on one type of craft! At the moment I’m just sorting out my website and have got some of my FIMO products, things like models, stationery items, pots and vases and other things like cards on there.
I just wish there was enough time for everything!!
Craft Sensations are available at their own website and Dawanda.
