A personal review by Kristine Isberg, guest blogger and owner of L’ECOLE NUIT, Fine European lingerie boutique that sells Christine Quartier lingerie.
With the launch of her couture label, Christine Quartier la Tente’s lingerie collection has already amassed quite an impressive following. From the first time I came across this collection, I too was captivated. And in doing my research, I found that I was definitely not the only one! This Paris designer has caught the attention of Hollywood, and her lingerie – up until now – has only been available to a select clientele of fashion and entertainment professionals.
Here’s just a few highlights of the brand’s auspicious beginning: Christine Quartier la Tente and her lingerie have appeared on the red carpet for the “Be An Angel” charity event, she has dressed dancers at West Hollywood’s elite Voyeur Nightclub, and her lingerie appears in Orlag’s rock video “Paradise Island” – a sexy malediction story. Her latest Hollywood collaboration has her lingerie featured in a burlesque – inspired scene in the new Bernard Rose movie “Two Jacks” starring Sienna Miller. How’s that for a debut!
The collection is comprised of four lines: Amandine, Asia, Asia Night and Leonor, with all pieces made in France.
Beginning with my personal favorite, the Leonor line is described as “a flirtatious touch of vinyl softened by the sparkling sweetness of a beautiful velvet”. This combination of materials (did I mention the opaque dot mesh and daring metallic detail?) may seem a bit vampy – and it is – but in a very flirtatious and glamourous way. The velvet is deliciously soft and of the deepest black color which contrasts nicely against the vinyl and metallic details that give the pieces an edgy sexiness – all balanced by the sheerness of the opaque dot mesh.
Among the collection highlights are the bandeau bra, with a sheer-lined opaque dot mesh quarter cup that provides a sensation of bare breasts while magically providing full support for a natural shape. The thong also features the sheer-lined dot mesh, but it is the velvet that really makes this piece – its strategic placing in the front, continuing half-way down the gusset just begs to be stroked! Finally the waspie suspender belt. High waist and structured with a double row of vinyl and metallic detail, it is a very stylish object of pure fantasy.
Sculpting a silhouette with its structured high waist design, the suspender belt offers a very couture look and definitely should be seen as outerwear. When you wear this line you become the ultimate temptress – without even trying!
Next is the Amandine line which features gorgeous French Calais lace, woven on Leavers machines and described as “a touch of sexy retro vintage seduction” – perfect for the femme fatale. The vintage comes from a subtle dot mesh detail, reminiscent of an elegant hat’s veil. This retro feel, combined with the lace’s very graphic ower pattern, create quite the alluring gure.
The Amandine line is definitely for the lace-obsessed woman – the lace is so delicate and fine to the touch. I’ve never felt lace quite this light and soft – the pieces actually caress your skin, making you feel oh so feminine and sensual. The full bra features a gorgeous lace overlay with the dot mesh playfully peeking out and decorating the straps. The thong features a keyhole and bow detail placed in the small of the back like a satin jewel. The pretty suspender belt is all dot mesh, sexy in its sheerness and very vintage– inspired.
But it is the full brief that is the jewel in my opinion. The wide French lace band that extends atteringly from the waist to the hips is an artwork in itself. If that’s not enough the full back coverage features the sheer dot mesh, gathered like a veil down the middle, highlighting curves in a subtle and ultra sexy way. This line of voluptuous ower-pattern lace truly brings out the boudoir spirit.
Dot mesh is a signature detail of the collections, and the two Asia lines are no exception. This exotic line plays on the romance of the Far East with its shimmering and vibrant fabric sprinkled with cherry blossoms and offered in two colors: mystery black and passion red.
Those of you who love drama will be drawn to the richness of the colors and shimmer of satin that give these pieces a very theatrical air. The Asia Night is an extension of the Asia line, offering nightwear including a kimono-style negligee and babydoll. I especially love the spectacular balconnet bra with its lightly padded underwire cups that create super sexy cleavage. If the cleavage doesn’t get you, then the beautiful, removable collar will. I have never seen such a unique characteristic on a bra. With its elegant hook trimmings, it can be worn with a corset, under a rounded collar jacket or under a square-neck sweater. How’s that for versatile! The Asia collections are elegant and refined; but beware, as with the other lines, once you wear this lingerie the exotic elegance effortlessly transforms you into a sensuous geisha!
With this glamourous collection, Christine Quartier la Tente has definitely made her mark in Hollywood – and now that the brand is available for purchase, I believe we will be seeing much more from this creative new designer in the future.
