Three helpful tips on choosing flattering undergarments for your silhouette
You’ve got the perfect dress for that wedding, graduation party, formal gala, or prom, but have you ever considered that what’s under your formal wear can be just as important as the dress itself.
Sexy or even sensible lingerie can go a long way to making you feel fantastic under your beautiful gown. Especially since undergarments can greatly help nip and tuck things into place, and make your silhouette appear sleek and smooth in your prom gown—banishing all instances of bumps and cellulite.
Many styles of formal dresses, allow for a bit of cleavage with a scooped or v-neckline, a slit up the leg, or a figure fitting number with a slinky mermaid style gown. Whatever your choice, you can feel more confident in your gown with the right lingerie or shape wear underneath. For instance, for that cleavage bearing gown—a sexy bra that offers lift and good breast support is a good idea. You don’t want to pull a Janet Jackson now do you?
You’re ideal gown paired with the right shoes, jewelry, and lingerie will make your outfit the envy of the ball—all with the goal of making you feel more confident about your fashion choices and your body.
Here are some helpful tips for choosing the right lingerie to go with your formal attire…
1. Keep your body image in mind
How do you feel about your body? Are you super confident and like to flaunt what you got! Or do you find yourself feeling self conscious and tugging at the length of a dress if it’s too short or too clingy? If you’re the later, you don’t want to choose a dress and lingerie that only heightens your self-consciousness. In this case, you might opt for sensible yet sexy (a little lace never hurt anyone) panty and bra set that offers complete coverage and good support for shaking the night away. However, if you’ve got it and you’re ready to flaunt it—you might choose to expose a little or a lot of skin (i.e., the legs, neck and chest, arms, and taunt tummy) and opt for slinkier, barely there lingerie that offers this sort of exposure.

This is less about how you feel about your body and more about the realities of your actual physique. Obviously, we all have various physiques—large or small chests, flat or round tummies, and long or short legs, etc.—the lingerie you choose should fit these areas properly. For example, if you have an hourglass figure, you could opt for a corset-style set for underneath your gown to accentuate your killer figure. However, if you have a round tummy, a bustier-style might cut into your body and be uncomfortable to wear all evening long.

We all are lucky in one sense or the other. Maybe you have sky high legs, an ample chest, or a smoking hour glass figure to flaunt. Whatever your best asset is, I encourage you to flaunt it and the lingerie you pick can help. For instance, if you have curves, choose shape wear to intensify the curves more or if you have ample cleavage, give it a boost with a supportive bra or bustier. And of course, wear lingerie that matches your tastes and makes you feel good too. For instance, you can de-emphasize a large bust (if you are self conscious about yours by choosing a sexy supportive bra and a dress that draws attention to the waist (with a nipped cut).
