I love the 21st century! I mean, look around! Every single person on this planet is allowed to speak his or her mind. Atsuko Kudo does it, and successfully that is. This one right here is a designer who knows how to speak the latex language. That’s right! Atsuko Kudo takes the fetish out of the fetish club and brings it into our daily – and nightly- life.
Born in Japan, the land of Harajuku girls and boys, Atsuko Kudo is personally familiar with the power of dramatic appearances. Ever since 2001, this designer started exploring and eventually creating feminine designs exclusively in latex, be it dresses, suits, lingerie, corsets, hats or accessories in her trademark lace and leopard prints and the classic latex shades.
Sounds a bit too Lady Gaga? Guess what, it actually is! When you say latex, you say strong, dynamic and strong confidence, and I believe we all agree Lady Gaga deserves a top place in this pyramid. I’m sure you all remember the red latex Victorian/ Elizabethan gown Lady Gaga wore when she met, that’s right, the Queen! But she didn’t stop there. I mean, how else can you sing for your beloved Alejandro if not in a red latex nun outfit?!
Not only Lady Gaga resonated with Atsuko Kudo’s bald designs, but also other glamorous women of the world, such as burlesque star Dita von Teese, Beyonce, Kate Moss, Eva Mendes, Janet Jackson of course, Christina Aguilera and style icon Grace Jones. Having all these strong and sexy women wearing your creations on stage or in front of the camera is quite a statement, I’d say!
I like Atsuko Kudo not only for her foresight, but also for her exclusive prints and folding techniques that create an instantly recognizable style. It’s the reason why she won the European Latex Designer of the Year for 08/09, a big brick in her ever-growing reputation.
She’s become so influential that she’s been supplying ladies wear items for Hussein Chalayan, Cerruti, Vivienne Westwood and Manish Arora for the Paris Runaways and for Fendi/ Karl Lagerfeld in Milan.
Her premier New York show in 2010, or better said, the first entirely latex runway show anywhere in the world, featured plus-size model Crystal Renn as final look. Alongside champion poodle Nightfall, Crystal Renn was the perfect final touch for this amazing show.

A designer as innovative as Atsuko Kudo is worthy of all the attention a deigner can get. For me, this is a fact ever since she won the Most Innovative Brand of the Year at the UK Lingerie Awards.
Atsuko Kudo made me say „Yes, 3 times Yes!” to latex. I’m curios if she got the same reaction from you.
