I am just a little feather headed friends, and too fast to judgment which is a terrible combination, take it from your big sister Petra. I am thinking today that I was feather headed and moving too fast the last time I toddled through an Aerie shop a couple of years ago. Things just felt a little … comfy, cottony and cozy for my cinched, silky and smoldering sensibilities. And I moved on.
All of us do move on, I suppose. The fresh and freckled faces, the fleece-cocooned and Ugg’d-up dorm-dwelling girls I then saw roaming Aerie aisles and pawing Aerie shelves moved on. The grew up, graduated, got a grip, pulled the hair back, traded hoodies for heels, stenciled sweats for pencil skirts, curricula for careers. Those girls are today, ta-DA …. women.
Seems that Aerie got busy and all grown up too. Moreover, I am happy to tell you that they have a grip on me. The lovely souls in the Aerie Social Media and Merchandizing SWAT Team reached out to Guilty Pleasures to tell us what they have been up to. They very kindly sent around a Petra Parcel with a few pretty, grown up and celebratory things from their limited edition Perfect Pairs Collection, just in time for the holiday season.
Shimmer is the general theme, and in exploring this theme, Aerie hits all my cinched, silky, and yes, smoldering check boxes. Shimmer works for the holidays, you see. All of us have events or evenings between now and Valentine’s day where we turn things up a notch, come out a little brighter, make the eyes pop, get the lips wet red, wear the taller shoes and show a little more leg. You simply cannot do that convincingly or enjoy half the pretty/sexy fun sexy if you don’t have the underthings playing the same game. Shimmer takes what nature gives and back lights it. Shimmer is stately and private. Shimmer comes from within. Maybe you can pull off the whole sexy angel thing, but for most of us, that is just a notch or two out of reach. ShimmerI can carry off during the day and later when the lights dim. You too. Don’t be shy.
The Perfect Pair Collection shimmers first with color. Vibrant jewel tones and bright palettes of nature abound. Subtle not-quite-nudes, regal silvers and, of course toujours and forever, black of which none of us will ever have too much. Don’t even think about arguing that point.
The collection shimmers as well with pretty embellishments. Nothing overdone, just some of my favorite things woven very deeply into the story. Lace overlays and silky ribbon trims. Gold and glittering accent threads on cups and wings. Dainty scalloping and winking eyelash lace trim here and there. Sequins pop and dance with the light. Rhinestones recline on silken beds. And bows, not just tiny cutesy glued on things, but genuine sewn-in, big, frothy gift wrapping for The Girls. Yummy. I do love me a big bow. All of this is done in good reserved measure. I spent a couple of hours top-swapping and really none of the reviewed bras ruled out any of my everyday tops except for my thinnest T’s. There is a lot of work on show in the collection, but the work does not peek through. The show is thankfully private 🙂
I am going to pick three Aerie faves to share notes on with you today.
Reese (just above) falls in between balconette and ¾ cup providing good coverage within lace trimmed softly graduated padding. Reese is a wonderfully comfortable and completely wearable bra. Wide wings taper to a secure leotard style back. Well lined and finished underwire cups are joined by a substantial center gore festooned with one of the big jolly ribbons I was cooing about just a minute ago. The elasticized micro-mesh wings and smooth cups are prettily draped and lit with gold accent thread on the floral lace overlay patterns, the accents are met with matching gold metal fitments on adjustable strap and 2 x 3 back fasteners.
Beyond Black, Reese is available in range of edible garden shades, Apple Fizz and Beet. I love the Gunmetal shade too which just makes the lace thread leap out gorgeously. Pair Reese with the lace hipped, Shimmer Lace Thong for an all-grown-up, romantic night out, or with your favorite everyday black panties for an all-grown-up, productive day at work. A special, everyday bra.
The Juliet of Shakespeare fame of course spent countless hours staring out hopefully from balconies, and so I suppose it is only fitting that the Juliet of Aerie fame is a balconette style bra certain to appeal to whoever your Romeo might be. Like Reese, Juliet is a modestly, comfortably padded bra, very soft and yielding around the under-wired cups. Juliet is just a little more out on the front porch than Reese. She comes complete with an interior pocket for the optional foam pad boosters. The little boosters are not big, but they have leverage and do cause a gentle rising of the tide above Juliet’s scallop lace half-cup levee. Juliet’s lace trim atop the smooth satin finished cup is prettier, the glimmer thread is more subtle too.
I always worry about balconette wearability though and have given Juliet a more rigorous workout than Reese. In fact, I gave her an hour of the patented “Petra Straps-Off” test just for giggles and jiggles. I didn’t have much of either. Juliet held up. Subtle reinforcements in side wing and at strap back provide most of the real support. The straps merely stabilize things a little and, properly adjusted are barely felt. Again, pretty and wearable. Pair Juliet with the Rhinestone Tanga and go to town.
As I write this morning I am in the Scarlet Sequined Pushup, paired with the Peek-A-Boo Tangastyle undie all in dark dusky Pinot. Undie verdict first: Love ‘em. Super cute pin-up element around the ruched cheek seam, loads of lace at leg and waist and cool, silky smooth everything in between.
The bra? Well, suffice to say that Scarlet has an attitude, she is a very up front girl. Couple the hidden removable air-filled cookie with the deep plunge cups and join them both together with an adjustable cleavage turbo-boost and you have a bra with at least 3 settings which you might think of as:
b) You+, and
c) Who style=”text-decoration: underline”>are You?
I have worn adjustable front bras in the past that were either too clumsy to work or too flimsy to stay put. Scarlet’s simple bra-strap style fastener is discrete, and once set, stays set. Good solution.
Scarlet’s molded ¾ cups are a little more rigid, a little less pliable, just a little less comfy than Reese and Juliet, but the tradeoff is in the silhouette. Aerie classifies bras by degree of lift with perfectly charming and intuitive language. Where Juliet is Perky, and Reese is Perkiest, red-hot Scarlet provides (I am not kidding darlings…) Whoa! class uplift. Yes, Whoa!
With all of this going on, I almost forgot to tell you. Scarlet is sequined! Yay! Party time! Scarlet also goes multi-way, converting to halter and criss-cross styles which in all likelihood you will need to work with your favorite Whoa! class party frock. Pair with the Peek-A-Boo’s, weaponize with your favorite stay-ups, killer shoes, a clutch with room only for lipstick and a credit card, comb out the hair and paint the town. You can sleep in on Sunday, yes?
Yes, even all grown up, you still get the Sunday sleep in.
A couple of notes on some non-ShimmeringAerie things. I am an instant fan of the everyday lines of Aerie’s Vintage lace panties. thong, tanga or bikinistyle, whisper thin and cool on the skin, available in a riot of colors and all for a mere 7/$26. Yes, 7 for $26.00. Great price for nice knickers.
Seeing of all this now with newly opened eyes, I am quite certain that I will have a different view of the more cottony, comfy and cozy things that Aerie is still fabled for next time I pop in to one of their shops. When I do, I will be sure to take notes and holler at you here. But don’t wait for me, go find out for yourself. The Shimmer Perfect Pairs are in limited edition, but well stocked (just now …) online.
Keep up with Aerie and get the odd special deal on Facebook or by signing up for AE Rewards over here. Even better, get pretty as fast as pretty gets on Twitter. There is a shop near you too, but you already knew that, didn’t you?
Go shimmer now, or share a note in comments here. Is Aerie growing up with you too? Love to know. Please leave a thought or two.
